What does a raggedly, stuffed bunny have to do with finding your story in 21 days? Nothing really, not this week anyway, but while we're here, meet Hossenpheiffer, my "rescue bunny" - who WAS to have been the subject of this week's blog, and was frankly quite excited about it, well as excited as raggedy, stuffed bunnies with glued on facial expressions can be, but then I remembered that my next 21-Day (virtual) Journaling with Collage Course is coming up on May 1st and I wanted to spend this week's blog to tell you about THAT. (Next week Hoss, I promise!)
So what exactly goes into a 21-Day Journaling with Collage Course? And why should you take one? Well, the format is simple. Each morning, for 21 days, I send participants, via email, that day's collage crop, along with a technique for "stepping into" that image comprised of a writing prompt. If you've been following my blog, you can get an idea of the way this works, as well as the -multitude- of ways there are to "work" a collage, gleaning the stories and messages held within it, and within YOU.
In this course, each day you'll receive a new image and prompt. Your task is to use the given prompt to do a journal entry or timed writing for that day in whatever format or structure works for you.
Oh, but there can't be THAT much material in a collage! you cry. Au contraire, I reply. Just take a look at the piece, "Happy Liberty." From this piece I could create prompts by asking things like:

1.) What is the book that the Woman is writing in? Is it a ledger, a diary ... a book of Sudoku? What is she writing in it?
2.) How did the Soldier lose his eye?
3.) Who is the Little Girl texting? What does that text say?
4.) Tell me the story of how Lady Liberty came to rise from the sea.
5.) Who is and where is the Dancing Lady's partner?

4.) Tell me the story of how Lady Liberty came to rise from the sea.
5.) Who is and where is the Dancing Lady's partner?
Then there's Teddy Roosevelt and the Boobies, which inspire the questions:
6.) Obviously, Teddy Roosevelt has been summoned from the past to save the day. From what? And how does he do it?
7.) Two Boobies (the birds) are staring incredulously at something just over our shoulder. What do they see?
The fascinating thing about this work, and this practice in particular is that whatever story you see in a piece, reveals a piece of YOUR own story.
I promise you that over the course of the 21-Days, you'll discover hidden themes and messages that have been patiently waiting to be uncovered. I invite you to give yourself the gift of 21 Days of Digging, Delving, and play-filled Unearthing via the sacred combination of image and word. Come join me for the 21-Day (virtual) Journaling with Collage Course beginning May 1st. Easy registration is a click away here. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Hope to see you there!
